Gabon FA President Pierre Mounguengui told Aubameyang to ditch Arsenal for more ambitious club

Gabon Football Association President Pierre Alain Mounguengui has urged Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join ‘more ambitious club’ than Arsenal.

The Gabonese International joined Arsenal in January 2018 and has been a major source of Arsenal’s goals from 2018, bagging in scoring 61 goals in 97 appearances for the Gunners over the last two seasons.

However, these goals have not necessarily translated into trophies where the closest the Gabonese has come in winning silverware for the Gunnars is League cup and Europa League finals.

Whilst other African players like Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Riyad Mahrez continue to add trophies to their cabinet, Mounguengui has told his countryman to ditch Arsenal for more ambitious club.

“I don’t want to say that Arsenal aren’t ambitious, but Arsenal don’t have ambitions as high as some other clubs as far as Europe is concerned,” president Pierre Alain Mounguengui told ESPN via Goal.

“So, if Pierre could secure a contract with a more ambitious club, he would definitely find his place there.

“On an individual level, we all consider him to be among the best players in the world.

“But the advice I give to him is to continue to work and to attract the attention of the biggest clubs and the most ambitious clubs.”

Aubameyang has a year left on his contract but is yet to agree extension with Arsenal, and this has fueled speculations of him leaving the Emirates Stadium.

He’s being considered replacement for Luis Suarez at Barcelona and Real Madrid are also reportedly considering signing the Gabonese striker. Meanwhile, interest from Manchester City and Manchester United are also in the pipeline.

Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabeu are considered perfect destinations for Aubameyang to win more titles, and Arsenal legend Ian Wright has envisioned Aubameyang playing in a big club, he would be winning more trophies.

“If you can imagine him in a better team, he would be winning Premier Leagues and vying for places in Champions League finals and I think he deserves that,” Wright told Premier League Productions.

“You don’t see him particularly vocal on the pitch, [no] pointing and screaming, but it’s what he does in respect of his leadership with the goals that he scores.

“If you take his goals out of that team then they’re in a massive heap of trouble. Arsenal need a few more players to kick in with their form to help him.

“We’re talking about a goalscorer who is scoring at the rate of a Champions League player, a world-class goalscorer.
