Manchester United agree two year deal with former PSG forward Edinson Cavani

Manchester United have reportedly agreed two year deal with former PSG striker Edinson Cavani according to latest reports.

The Uruguayan International completed a £55million deal from Napoli to PSG in July 2013. The 33-year old lived up to expectation, scoring impressive 187 goals in 276 appearances across all competitions in his 7-year stay at Parc de Princes.

Getting to ending of last term however, the former Seria A hit-man was continually left out in the pegging order with Thomas Tuchel preferring Neymar, Mauro Icardi and Kylian Mbappe in his three men upfront.

Cavani has seen his contract already expired at PSG with that coming at the end of last season and now remains a free agent ahead of the 2020/2021 football season.

At the Beginning of this term, the former PSG star was linked with a move back to Napoli, Lazio and Atletico Madrid as all those clubs were ready to offer the Uruguayan a new home.

However, none of them have been able to reach agreement with Cavani with Manchester United, according to a latest report in ESPN, very close to landing the South African star instead.

The ESPN reports that Manchester United have agreed a 2-year deal with Cavani and the forward is expected to fly to England tomorrow Sunday to complete his medicals ahead of a summer transfer.

If this formality is successfully completed, United are expected to confirm Cavani’s deal on early Monday morning. Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær has opted to adjust his squad this season with Andreas Pereira having joined Lazio on a season-long loan move last Friday while Diogo Dalot is  expected to complete a loan move to AC Milan on deadline day.

In contrary, United are expected to bring in additions with experience and quality set not be compromised by the Old Trafford club in order to secure Champions League football for next season. Against this backdrop, Ole’s side are poised to sign Jadon Sancho before the transfer window ends on Monday while a deal for Cavani is in the pipeline.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Juan Mata have got United’s season underway brightly but Ole understands that completion of Sancho’s transfer will turn his side’s season around according to Sky Sports.

At the end of 2016 season, when Cavani had entered three seasons into his contract at PSG, the former Napoli forward was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United but a successful transfer failed with the striker rejecting the chance to play under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

United later convinced Cavani’s former PSG teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic to join on a year contract free transfer.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce the signing of Swedish international striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibrahimovic, 34, made 180 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain, scoring 156 goals.

“He has won championships in four different leagues since beginning his professional career with Malmo in 1999. Zlatan represented his country 116 times, scoring 62 goals, before announcing his retirement from international football last month.”

After two years of snubbing Manchester United, Cavani in January 2018 became PSG’s all-time top scorer with his 157th goal.

With PSG, Cavani has won six Ligue 1 championships, five Coupes de la Ligue and four Coupes de France.[5] He was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year for the 2016–17 season and was the league’s top scorer in the 2016–17 and 2017–18 seasons.
