Hakim Ziyech move to Chelsea delayed by new FIFA statement

Morocco winger Hakim Ziyech has already signed for Chelsea and was due to switch camp for Stamford Bridge at the end of the season which ends June 2020.

But with the ending of football season expected to go beyond June due to season suspension from coronavirus crisis, players’ contracts- those expiring and beginning like that of Ziyech are expected to take effect when the season ends and new one start respectively- to be determined by respective football Association across Europe and beyond.

The statement reads. “With the current suspension of play in most countries, it is now obvious that the current season will not end when people thought it would.

“Therefore, it is proposed that contracts be extended until such time that the season does actually end.

“A similar principle applies to contracts due to begin when the new season starts, meaning the entry into force of such contracts is delayed until the next season actually does start.”

This means Ziyech’s move to Chelsea would be delayed than the initial of 1st July and can join team-mates the date the FA set for the start of football season in England.
