Chelsea close to signing Benfica wonderkid Chiquinho after beating West Ham in race

Chelsea are reported close to signing Benfica young sensation Chiquinho after beating rivals West Ham in the race for the young midfielder’s signature.

Chelsea and West Ham United both submitted a bid to sign the Portuguese U-20 ace but Frank Lampard’s side seems to have won the race for Chiquinho’s signature as claimed by Portuguese publication Record via The Sun.

Chiquinho has been exceptional for Benfica U-23 scoring six goals in 24 outings for the youth side. The 20-year-old  recently broke into Benfica senior side in Estoril and has made eight senior appearances, netting and assisting one each respectively.

He is expected to be a regular member of Benfica first team but is also expect to leave the Portuguese giants sooner than later as reports from Lisbon claim Chelsea have agreed to sign the young winger.

Chiquinho, who was born in Cape Verde but has lived most of the life in  Lisbon, Portugal and could be sold to Chelsea for a cut price, according to the Portuguese publication.
