Arsenal won race to sign Lille defender Gabriel Magalhães as transfer to be confirmed next week

Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle to sign Lille defender Gabriel Magalhães as move to be confirmed next week according to reports.

Arsenal’s appointment of Mikel Arteta has mean the North London side have been acting smartly in the transfer market in recent time after completing a move for former Chelsea pair David Luiz beginning of the season and William last week.

A host of big-name players, Philippe Coutinho, Thiago Silva, Federico Bernardeschi and Liverpool bound Thiago Alcantara are continually linked, but Arsenal have diverted the path to agree a deal to sign Magalhães.

The Brazilian defender has been seen as a risen star at Lille but his departure from the  French Ligue 1 appears imminent with Arsenal already agreed a £27million transfer for the South American as claimed by Fabrizio Romano.

The 20-year old was linked with a move to Everton during when  coronavirus pandemic peaked in Europe, and while Chelsea entered the race along the line amid their search for a new centre-back, they failed to reach agreement for Magalhães.

Arsenal have now beaten not only Everton and Chelsea to the signing of Magalhães but interest from Manchester City, Napoli and Manchester United have succumed to Arsenal’s approach in landing the Brazilian.

The Daily Mail reports that Magalhães has completed Arsenal medical last Friday and his prise-away from the Stade Pierre Mauroy could be announced next week.

The defender will, that’s according to Romano, sign a contract that will see him remain in North London until ending of 2025.
