Joseph Esso and Kofi Kodzi double against Ebusua Dwarfs earn Hearts of Oak first Ghana Premier League victory

Hearts of Oak beat Cape Coast based Ebusua Dwarfs 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium to claim first three points in the Ghana Premier League.

Their first two games have all ended in defeats against Berekum Chelsea and Medeama in Week 1 and 2 respectively but the Phobians defeat Dwarfs to record first win of the season.

Hearts of Oak needed Joseph Esso 29’ minute strike to get their first goal of the season after Esso converted a free kick to put Hearts of Oak ahead following their successful spell of beautiful football.

Dwarfs warmed into the game but were lacking the incisiveness to find the final ball for the equalizer as the the first half ended 1-0 for Hearts.

Hearts doubled their lead early in the second half after bulky forward Kofi Kodzi struck from a stunning free kick at the left edge of the box.

The Phobians looked to have found the perfect game, running through so easily on the afternoon but Albert Ato Hammond struck on the 71’ minute to reduce the deficit to only one.

Dwarfs now turned the pressure on Hearts but failed the get the equalizer proper as Hearts defended their 2-1 lead to claim their first win of the season.
