Mostafa Mohamed nets in debut against İstanbul Başakşehir as Galatasaray run away with 3-0 victory

Egypt international Mostafa Mohamed has scored on his Galatasaray debut in their 3-0 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir.

Mohamed had only joined Galatasaray less than a week ago, coming from Zamalek on a one-and-a-half-year loan deal for a fee of $2million.

He arrived in Istanbul on Sunday night and underwent the medical before the transfer was officially announced the other day.

Moreover, Mohamed was included in Galatasaray squad for their clash with rivals Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Super Lig, starting the game on bench.

The visitors could have had the first goal of the game; however, Giuliano missed from the spot, before Henry Onyekuru punished them and opened the scoring for Galatasaray in the 45th minute.

Mostafa Mohamed was brought in at half-time alongside Younes Belhanda for both Oghenekaro Etebo and Arda Turan.

The two substitutes rewarded Fatih Terim for his faith in them as Younes Belhanda first assisted Ryan Donk in the 64th minute to make it 2-0.

And in the 92nd minute, Mostafa Mohamed scored his first-ever goal in Europe from the spot, putting the ball past Mert Gunok.

Mostafa has become the first Egyptian to score in the Turkish Super Lig since Mohamed Elneny, who scored for Besiktas in July 2020. The win moved Galatasaray up to second place with 45 points, only three behind leaders Fenerbahçe.

Despite the goal, the Egypt international didn’t have an incredibly influential performance, something he believes is due to the lack of time he’s had with squad.

“I only trained once with the team, so I wasn’t fully prepared and I think it was clear for the fans,” he told Fotospor via KingFut.

“I’m hungry for more, I want to succeed and win and lift the league title. The manager, Fatih Terim, motivated me in an unbelievable way,” he added.
