Ghana Black Maidens begins 2020 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Liberia

Ghana’s Black Maidens started their 2020 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign with emphatic 2-0 win over Liberia at the Antoinette Tubman Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah and Salamatu Abdulai found back of the net each to hand Mallam Nuhu’s side a huge advantage ahead of the return leg in Ghana.

After a goalless draw in the first half, Maidens got back strongly to put two second half goals past their Liberian opponents.

Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah’s 63rd minute free kick gave Ghana a sound lead before substitute Mafia Nyame laid a tailor measured pass to Salamatu Abdulai, who Abdulai wasted no time, smashed it to the far posts.

Ghana will now enter into the second leg of the tie with a 2-0 lead and hope of qualifying to the next stage of the qualifying round.
