BREAKING: Liverpool favourites for Sancho as English pushes January move away from Dortmund

Given Liverpool’s history in the mid-season transfer window under Jürgen Klopp, with the manager preferring to stick with the players he has rather than trying to bed in new talent and risking upsetting squad balance, expectations are low for January.

However, as shown with the mega signing of Virgil van Dijk in 2018, if the right player is available Klopp and Liverpool will move. And the right player might just be available this time around according to respected Norwegian journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft.

The retired footballer, who regularly appears for Viasport in his homeland, claims that a German source has told him Liverpool are favourites to land Jadon Sancho—and the player is pushing to get the move done in January rather than next summer.

The original plan had been for Sancho to see out the season with Borussia Dortmund before moving on next summer for a fee upwards of £100M, but the player has had a difficult first half of the season at his current club and appears to be out of favour.

That has led to a situation where it began to seem possible that his departure could be moved up, and recent reports from journalists with ties to Manchester United suggested that club believed they were in the lead for the star 19-year-old winger.

However, while at the moment United would offer a clearer path to starting for Sancho, in all other aspects Liverpool currently eclipse their biggest rivals, and so it’s not surprising to see a likely more neutral source now calling Liverpool favourites.

The question is, as always in a case like this, just how serious Liverpool are about the player or whether they’re perhaps more focused on other targets and if this is a case of the selling club or player’s agent trying to spark a bidding war.
