SuperSport United beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 to inflict a second ABSA Premiership defeat

South African giants Kaizer Chiefs had enjoyed the sweeter side of results in the ABSA Premiership winning 11 out of 15 matches in total.

The last 8 League games before a draw against Maritzburg United last two weeks and today’s defeat to SuperSport have all ended in emphatic victory for Ernst Middendorp’s side.

Chiefs who prior to facing SuperSport had lost just a game in the league- that is at home against Polokwane City- entered the Year New with hopes very high to continue their fine form domestically.

However their Saturday trip to Mbombela Stadium in Mbombela against SuperSport ended a bitter result for the league leaders as they suffered a second defeat in the ABSA Premiership, and a first New Year defeat in general.

SuperSport broke the deadlock just 9’ minutes on the clock as Bradley Grobler appears the first player to put at the back of Chiefs’ net in New Year.

Daniel Cardoso converted a penalty to draw Chiefs on level three minutes into the second half but could still not contained the attack of SuperSport allowing Thamsanqa Gabuza to emerge through the ranks to grab the winner for the home side on 62’ minute.

There was nothing Chiefs could do as the left Mbombela with a 2-1 defeat, however, they have the opportunity to bounce back when they host Highlands Park on Wednesday evening.
