Christian Atsu registers assist following Newcastel’s 1-1 draw against Rochdale in the FA Cup Third Round

Ghana winger Christian Atsu registered an assist following Newcastel’s 1-1 draw against Rochdale in the FA Cup Third Round on Saturday afternoon.

Steve Bruce and his side traveled to face Rochdale at Crown Oil Arena for the FA Cup Third Round but couldn’t secure a Fourth Round qualification at the Spotland Stadium despite dominating possession, 66% against Rochdale’s 33%.

Steve Bruce opted for the favorite 5-3-2 system which saw Christian Astu running through the left channel as a left wing back, along with Isaac Hayden, Federico Fernandez, Emil Krafth and DeAndre Yedlin as supporting figures to complete the five-back system.

The system worked perfectly for Newcastle not only in defensive aspect but during attacks as well, allowing Newcastle to take a deserved 17’ minute lead through Miguel Almirón.

Christian Atsu played important part in that goal, skipping past his marker from the left flank before sliding a pass back for Miguel Almiron to slot into the roof of the net.

The home side fought back to equalize on the 79th minute through substitute Aaron Wilbraham who had replaced another Ghanaian Kwadwo Baah on the 46’ minute.
