Kaizer Chiefs target Thabo Nodada shows Amakhosi how they can get him signed

Kaizer Chiefs target Thabo Nodada has revealed the only way he  can join the Premier Soccer league (PSL) leaders. Ndada, 25, has been significant for Cape Town City since joining from Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2016.

He undoubtedly stands one of the best midfielders in the South African top flight league, attracting interest from Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in the local scene.

However, he has been consistently linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs in recent times as ageing and injuries are creating problems for Ernst Middendorp’s midfield.

Though Chiefs are the most successful club in the PSL with a record of 12 titles, they have not won the PSL title since 2014-2015 season and they appear to lift the title first time in almost 5 years when they led the table before the coronavirus pandemic halted the season.

It remains unclear the actual date the league returns but it very likely to do so late this month or early next month. And if the season resumes, CAF Inter Club competition will be Chiefs’ big agenda- something Nodada is believed can play a big part given his versatility that earn him ‘N’Golo Kante’ in South African as Chiefs may search for their first ever title in CAF tournaments for clubs on the African continent.

But Nodada’s transfer to the Amakhosi needs to be met first, and despite willing to welcome a move to Chiefs- (“Yeah, sure”), European interest could potentially hamper Middendrop’s side of completing one of their dream transfers in recent times.

It seems Nodada is ready to join Kaizer Chiefs but in the absence of interest from a club in Europe, and the only way Chiefs can sign the 25-year old is to prevent European clubs that may come for Nodada’s signature.

Having asked if he (Nodada) will join Kaizer Chiefs, he replied, “Yeah, sure.”

He added: “For that [joining Chiefs] to even be considered, I’d have to be 100 percent sure Europe is not happening. Upon then will I be able to make a decision” Futball Surgery quotes from KickOff.com.

After revealing the chances of joining the Glamour Boys, Nodada talked up about his career at current club Cape Town City indicating how quality foreign internationals have contributed to his form.

“It’s also credit to the quality of players I’ve been privileged to play with. Cape Town City has been ambitious enough to bring in foreign internationals and a South African in Europe.

“These additions have always kept me on my toes. My personal goals and targets have also not allowed me to skip a day.”

“I lost a lot of muscle during the injury, so much it felt like a complete rebuild. I got a better understanding of my body, and how each body contributes to how I play,” he explains.

“I was playing higher than normal, in and around the forwards. I enjoyed it, a lot. Somewhere I’d seen myself before, somewhere I’d played for. A lot of work was done before I got to the field, and credit to the technical team.

“All setbacks in pre-season led to greater comebacks in the league, goals and assists. My mental toughness was questioned throughout, mostly by me.

“I couldn’t believe where we sat on the table. I wanted to change it, every game, and every training session. It built character. It also built a better relationship between me and my peers.”

Chiefs chances of signing Nodada can further be complicated by the transfer ban from FIFA February this year which prevents the club from signing new players for next two transfer windows- though they have appealed at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
