Charles Akonnor salary determined as Black Stars boss earns $25,000 a monthly after signing a two year deal with Ghana

Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has signed a two year contract with the Ghana Football Association and will earn $25,000 as monthly salary according to reports.

Akonnor was appointed the head coach of the senior national team of Ghana January 2020 in what was a step up on the managerial ladder for Akonnor after previously operating as the assistant coach for Akwesi Appiah- who Akonnor took over from.

Despite being appointed, the former Black Stars captain never signed official contract for a reason or two and there has been a new revelation that the boss has signed a two year contract that will be announced by the GFA very soon.

This claim by Kofi Asare Brako on Adom TV sports program, the spokesperson and personal assistant to the Sports Minister, goes with the news that Akonnor have reached agreement with government and GFA over a $25,000 as monthly salary less than the $35,000-a-month salary earned by former boss Akwesi Appiah.

Akunnor worked and built a very reputable relationship with Akwesi Appiah for two months and saw to it that Ghana won its all two games against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe in 2021 AFCON qualifiers during the time Akonnor assisted Appiah.

The new Black Stars coach spoke about the respect he has for Akwesi Appiah for the good he (Appiah) played  by appointing him (Akonnor) as the assistant before earning the head coach position of the Black Stars.

“I went to him [before taking up the job] because before he got me to assist him there was a lot of discussion between us,” Akonnor told reporters.

“I told him my opinion and what I stand for, he accepted that in good fate and so once he is no more the coach, there was the need to for me to give him that respect.”

“Because truth be told, he is the one who got me there, nobody did. It’s a miracle for me to be his assistant and within two months and after two matches.”

“I am the head. It can only be a miracle, nobody [else] got me there and so I have to give him that respect and I will continue to give him that respect.”

Akonnor has had a quick transition in his coach career starting from Secondi Eleven Wise in 2010 through Hearts of Oak in 2012, Ash Gold 2014-2017, Asante Kotoko in 2018-2019 season and to the Black Stars of Ghana in 2020.

He has already won the Normalization Committee Special Competition and reach group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup all with Asante Kotoko as he now eye a successful spell with Ghana Black Stars.
