Zambian giants Zesco United emerge frontrunners for Asante Kotoko striker Songne Yacouba

Zambian giants Zesco United are closing to completing a sensational move for former Asante Kotoko striker Songne Yacouba after beating off competition from African giants Nkana Red Devils, Golden Arrows, Simba Football and Azam Football Club.

Yacouba, 28, has attracted many interest on the African continent after exhibiting impressive displays during Kotoko’s CAF Confederation campaign in the 2018-2019 season.

At a point, the two Zambian duo of Nkana and Zesco opened a transfer war over the striker before they later realize the Burkina International has opened a contract renewal talks with parent club Kotoko back in November 2019.

With many talks to get the striker to sign a new deal at Kumasi, in a bid to have prevented a situation of making the former Stade Malien attacker turn a free man March this years, falling through, suitors are now eligible to open resh talks with the Burkina International.

Late last month, Yacouba’s South African-based representative Ahmed Nuno revealed interest in the 28-year-old from Golden Arrows, Zesco United, Simba and Azam Football Clubs and emphasized that the two Tanzania clubs were the most likeliest destination of Songne Yacouba.

However, Zesco United now appear favorites to seal a move for the silky Burkina Faso striker after the Zambian giants have already opened negotiations with the striker’s entourage.

Despite talks in advanced stage, they would still have to get rid of interest from Inter Allies and Medeama Sporting Club in the Ghana Premier League where the Ghana Premier League side are also preparing a bid for Yacouba.

Yacouba was a germ in Kotoko CAF Confederation Cup in the 2018-2019 season though he managed to score only twice against Al Hilal Omdurman and Nkana in Zamabia but he provided a record of five assists in the competition.

The two goals were crucial for the Ghanaian giants in the campaign drawing the Ghanaian giants on level at point in those games but failed to qualify to the quarter finals of the competition.

Al Hilal had gotten the better of Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium when Waleed Bakhet Hamid’s rose to head Al Hilal home on the 33rd minute before unmarked Songne Yacouba equalized on 86th minute for Kotoko heading home Emmanuel Gyamfi cross from from the left edge.

But before his goal against the Sudanese side, Yacouba scored to draw Kotoko on level against Nkana at the Nkana Stadium when his nicely placed free kick have a touch under the cross bar to ensure the first half ended 1-1 before the Zambians Super League side grabbed two second half goals to end the game 3-1 in Zambia.

He later earned Burkina Faso national team call up during the Stallions’ preparation for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against group leaders Mauritania on 22nd March, however, Burkina failed to qualify for the 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt won by Algeria against Sadio Mane’s Senegal.
