Jose Riveiro on Orlando Pirates’ lack of goals

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has revealed what made it difficult for his side to grab a win against a 10-man Richards Bay FC.

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has revealed what made it difficult for his side to grab a win against a 10-man Richards Bay FC in a match that ended on a goalless draw on Saturday evening.

Despite failing to secure maximum points for the second time in a row, the Buccaneers remained fourth in the DStv Premiership standings with four wins in 10 games.

The Sea Robbers couldn’t make use of their numerical advantage after the Natal Rich Boyz’s Siyanda Msani got his marching orders late in the first half.

Meanwhile, the DStv Premiership newcomers currently occupy second spot in the table with 18 points, one behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Riveiro says a one man short Richards Bay didn’t allow them space to play.

“Well a very good first half, too precipitate in the last third. In the first half I think we played against 11 men,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“Second half was a very different story, it’s not easy to play against ten [men] because there’s no so much space to play.

“And the rhythm is always going down, because in a way it’s normal when there’s one team not interested to play.

“So it’s difficult to keep high rhythm like we did in the first half and we didn’t improve in what I said before, be a bit calm in the last third, to play one more pass sometime and try to find easy solutions.”

Riveiro’s charges failed to score for the third consecutive match and the Spanish mentor added that they didn’t create enough goal-scoring chances to rattle the back of the net.

“Like I said before, the only thing we missed today was to be more accurate in the last pass, in recent games, we spoke about the last touch, today was the last pass close to the box, we were not precisive enough and we didn’t generate enough amount of chance,” he added.

“Even though I think we did enough to get the result here tonight at home but we have to accept it, it’s one point and we continue.”
