Egyptian Premier League: Zamalek beat Ceramica Cleopatra as Al Ahly scrape win over Aswan

Both Cairo giants have extended their points tally after earning wins in the Egyptian Premier League’s second round.

Al Ahly had earned a narrow 1-0 victory over rivals Ismaily last week, thanks to a second-half strike from summer-signing Shady Hussein.

The Red Devils continued their winning run on Sunday when they hosted newly-promoted side Aswan on matchday two.

It took Al Ahly 17 minutes to open the scoring as Shady Hussein earned a penalty for his side with Ali Maaloul converting successfully from the spot to give his side the lead.

Despite having a goal advantage, Al Ahly struggled against Aswan with ex-forward Malick Evouna causing their defence problems on the counter-attack.

Mohamed El-Shenawy was also called into action on several occasions to save his side and keep the scoreline at 1-0.

Meanwhile, Zamalek picked up where they left off last week and capitalised on their momentum after a 2-0 win over Smouha.

Watch moments Seifeddine Al Jaziri gave Zamalek the advantage

Jesualdo Ferreira changed his starting lineup against Ceramica Cleopatra with new signing Mostafa El-Zenary filling in Mahmoud Hamdy El-Wensh’s spot, who is out with an injury.

The Whites had a perfect start to the game with Seifeddine Jaziri firing Zamalek into the lead after a well-constructed team goal.

Ceramica came close to grabbing the equaliser with Ahmed Yasser Rayan having two goals ruled out for offside after VAR consultation.

However, Zamalek finished off the game and sealed all three points after Ahmed Fatouh unleashed a powerful drive at the edge of the box with his weaker right foot to score their second goal of the evening with three minutes remaining to full-time.
