Pitso Mosimane expect but won’t be worried about Ahly’s delaying tactics

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is not worried about delaying tactics that might be deployed by Al Ahly when they meet at Lucas Moripe Stadium today.

Sundowns go to the game against the Egyptians trailing 2-0 after losing the first leg in Cairo and now need to score at least two goals and not concede to keep their dream of winning the CAF Champions League again alive.

The North Africans are known for falling down on the floor to kill the momentum of the game and applying time-wasting tactics when they enjoy the lead.

“We can’t be complaining about delaying tactics in the Champions League in year six. We should be ready for all things. We should be ready for anything and everything,” says Mosimane.

“You can’t be here and say ‘oh they will come with delaying tactics’ and all that. If they do that, they do that. If it’s part of their plan, part of their game, they can do it. If we score, I am sure there won’t be delaying tactics.”

Meanwhile, ‘Jingles’ says his team will take long time to close the gap between themselves and Al Ahly in terms of organisation off the pitch.

“I thought the game against Al Ahly last year was huge but this year is even bigger. Then you know how big is Al Ahly and you look at your team and say ‘we have a long way to go here’,” he adds.

“There is big gap between Sundowns and Al Ahly. We might try to close it on the pitch but as an institution and club, it’s huge. It’s another level.”

The Chloorkop-based side are set to welcome back defender Anele Ngcongca after he missed the first leg due to a groin injury.

Ahly suffered the wrath of Downs the last time they visited, going down by 5-0 in 2019 Champions League before wining the return leg in Egypt 1-0.
