Asante Kotoko assistant coach Johnson Smith reveals transfer plans for ongoing window

Asante Kotoko assistant coach Johnson Smith makes revelation that the Reds will enter into the transfer window for a new signings for striking department.

The Porcupine Warriors have had a cool-warm season so far after fighting to the top of Ghana Premier League table before dropping of 6th place following recent defeat to Elmina Sharks.

The Kumasi based side have also been eliminated from continental football and knee on making squad’s reinforcements to be able to steal a spot for Caf Inter Club competitions next season.

The Ghana Premier League outfit’s success of achieving that were hampered by the transfer ban handed up by Player Status Committee January resulting from contractual tussle with four of their former players.

However, they were given a relief from the ban after the Status Committee announced termination of Kotoko’s transfer ban late this week.

Some days after that development, assistant head coach Smith has made revelation about Kotoko’s transfer plans with specific interest in striking force.

The former Karela United boss in his post-match conference of Kotoko loss to Sharks with StarTimes Gh stated that his club will need to beef up his striking department in the ongoing transfer window- that opened last January.

“The movement of my players was a problem. We have only one striker and we have to beef up our striking department. We can withstand every pressure.”

“This is the league and we must still fight on”, Smith said in response to the ban lifted by the Ghana FA Player Status Committee.”

To go by Smith’s revelation, Kotoko have been linked with several forwards including Karela United ace Diawisie Taylor, Kwame Peprah of King Faisal and foreign players.

Taylor has been instrumental for Karela firing them to top of the Ghana Premier League with 31 points. The 21-year old has netted 12 goals so far in the Ghanaian top flight.

Kwame Opoku has also found back of the net 9 times three than what Tyalor has scored for Karela United.

It’s understood that Kotoko are interested in a deal for Taylor instead who have once stated his willingness to play for Asante Kotoko.
