Platinum 0-3 Etoile: Etoile du Sahel go three points clear in Group B after impressive away victory over Platinum of Zimbabwe

Etoile de Sahel are enjoying a good spell in the 2019-2020 CAF Champions League under their new manager Juan Carlos Garrido. Garrido in his first game in the continent’s premier club competition brushed aside Egyptian power house Al Ahly to record first Group B victory of the ongoing competition.

After seeing Ahly and Hilal catch them on the same points, Etoile needed a victory against Platinum today not only to go above their main rivals in terms of points accumulation but also to boost their chances of topping group B.

Platinum of Zimbabwe also knew that a win against Etoile would make the group more open and balanced, after losing their opener of Champions League group stage to Al Hilal in Sudan last weekend, and also seeing Hilal fail to add any point to their three points at Al Salam Stadium yesterday after been crushed 2-0 by Ahly.

Platinum failed to capitalized on home advantage, going down 1-0 in the first half after Karim Aribi put Garrido’s men in front 23’ minutes after kickoff.

Aribi doubled Etoile’s lead just a minute into the second half before Hazem Hag Hassen stoppage time strike saw the Tunisians through with a deserving 3-0 victory at Barbourfield Stadium.

Etoile now have 6 points from two games, making them Group B leader with Al Hilal and Al Ahly sitting second and third place respectively with three point each as at match day two of the CAF Champions League group stages.
