Jackson Muleka double sink ZESCO United in Ndola after TP Mazemebe run away with a slim victory

ZESCO United welcomed Dr Congo giants TP Mazembe to the Levy Nwanawasa Stadium in Ndola in match day two of the 2019-2020 CAF Champions League, but only saw a bitter results against the Ravens.

TP Mazembe got the better of ZESCO inside 10 minutes of the game as chief tormentor for Zamalek Jackson Muleka this time again drove a powerful shot from a tight angle into the roof of the net.

Mazembe after their opener kept the game under control and managed to end the first half with a 1-0 lead. Despite dominating the first half, they rarely entered ZESCO penalty box. Most of their build ups were contained deep in midfield and somehow at the edges of their attacking lines.

In the second half, ZESCO returned strongly dictating the direction and flow of the game but the home side lacked the understanding up front to open Ravens’ defense.

ZESCO increased the desire to draw on level but it was TP Mazembe who got the better of their opponents once again as inspiring Muleka sent in a stunning curler from the right edge of the box to put TP Mazembe 2-0 up on the 63’ minute. It’s his fourth goal and the leading scorer in the competition so far.

ZESCO reacted quickly four minutes later, Winston Kalengo turned Mazembe defender around before placing the ball bottom right corner of Sylvain Gbohouo.

ZESCO pressed to cancel out Mazembe’s lead, around this period ZESCO had been able to find solutions to penetrate Ravens’ defense but Sylvain Gbohouo produced last minute saves to deny ZESCO the equalizer.

TP Mazemeb run way with a 2-1 win, and they top group A with 6 points from a possible of six. Mabembe travel to Angola to face Primeiro de Agosto in match day three of the CAF Champions League group stage while ZESCO will welcome Zamalek to today’s venue two weeks later.
