U-23 AFCON: Ghana 2-3 Egypt, more about the game

Egypt’s second half stunning performance were too strong for the Black Meteors to contain as Ramadan Sobhi inspires Egypt into Africa U-23 Nations Cup semis.

Black Meteors started the game pretty well, dictating the flow and direction of the game but in a slow manner. Six minutes into the game, Ghana took the lead through captain Yaw Yeboah after tapping home Samuel Obeng’s nice ball across Egypt goal area.

Ghana started a quick sweet build up from their back as defender Edward Sarpong played Samuel Obeng through the left flank, Obeng skipped past his marker before sending in a superb cross for Yaw Yeboah to connect with his favorite left foot.

After the goal, Egypt came into the game very strongly piling pressure on the Black Meteors of Ghana. It took Egypt 17 minutes to grab the equalizer as Zamalek inform striker Mohammed Mustafa rose above Ghana’s defense to head home Ahmed AboulFetouh’s cross from the left flank.

Egypt nearly took the lead when it was 4 minutes to the end of the first half as Ramadan Sobhi sent in a stunning 25 yards shot at goal, but Ghana keeper Kwame Baah flicked the ball beyond the cross bar to make the game 1-1 at the end of the first half.

Samuel Obeng restored Ghana’s lead just a minute into the second half when he capitalized on Mohamed Abdelsalam’s error at the back of Egypt box. The Ghanaian forward picked Abdelsalam’s never-reaching back pass, he dribbled keeper Mohamed Sobhi before smashing the ball in an empty net.

Egypt took the game to Ghana, organizing built ups around Meteors goal area but Ghana were able to deal with all forms of pressure for a couple of times, but could not completely tame Egypt’s attack throughout the entire second half as Ramadan Sobhi head home a rebound to make the game 2-2 on 55’ minute, but the referee whistled for an offside.

Eight minutes later, Kwame Baah produced a tremendous save following Moshen’s a close range effort to prevent Egypt from getting the leveler. On the 74’ minute, Hesham saw his effort hit the cross-bar.

On 82’ minute, Egypt grabbed the equalizer. After almost seven minutes of pressing and creating decent chances, Rahman Magdy shot from the right edge of Ghana box but keeper Kwame Baah failed to save the ball before Ramadan Sobhi tap in the rebound.

Two minutes to full time, Egypt took the lead as Ahmed Yasser Rayan rose above his maker to head home inspiring Ramadan Sobhi’s corner to give Egypt a well deserving 3-2 win.

Egypt are back on top of group A with six points from two games, and will host second place Cameroon at the Cairo Stadium for the last group stage game.
