Black Maidens beat Liberia 8-0 to qualify to last round of 2020 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

An impressive 2-0 win in the first leg and a 8-0 thrashing of their Liberian opponents in the second leg at the Accra Sports Stadium Saturday have passed the Black Maidens of Ghana through to the last round of the Women’s U-17 World Cup Qualifiers.

The Maidens were drawn ‘standby’ in the preliminary stage which saw Ghana only began its 2020 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World qualifying campaign from the first round against Liberia.

Second half strikes from Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah and Salamatu Abdulai gave the Maidens a sound advantage from the first leg in Monrovia before Nuhu’s side finally welcomed Liberia to the Accra Sports Stadium today.

First leg’s opener, Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah struck four times this afternoon before Salamatu Abdulai, Elizabeth Oppong, Alice Sarpong and Tracy Twum added one each to complete the scoring spree in Ghana’s capital.

The score line qualifies Black Maidens on 10-0 aggregate over their Liberian counterparts, and are now set to meet Nigeria or Guinea in the final round of the qualifiers, but things look likely to be Nigeria who failed to qualify to the last FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.

Chinyere Kalu’s  opener, Yemisi Samuel hat-trick and a brace from Rofiat Imuran handed Nigeria a comfortably 6-1 victory over Guinea in the first leg in Conakry, and they take on Guinea in Nigeria this weekend for the second leg tie.
