Al Ahly on verge of completing swap deal for Mohamed Farouk from Pyramids
Pyramids ace Mohamed Farouk has confirmed that he is nearing a return to Al Ahly in a swap deal that will see Ahmed El-Sheikh go the other way.
The 31-year-old had a very short and an unsuccessful stint at Al Ahly, making just five appearances during the 2014/15 season after he joined them from Arab Contractors.
However, Farouk was part of the Al Ahly team that won the CAF Confederation Cup back in 2014.
Farouk then left to join Wadi Degla on a free transfer, then Entag El-Harby, before returning to Arab Contractors, where he managed to rediscover his old form.
His performances for the Contractors earned him a big money move to Pyramids FC as he emerged as a key player for the mega-rich club.
17 goals and nine assists across two seasons where his numbers with Pyramids, which made Al Ahly consider bringing him back as per the request of new head coach Pitso Mosimane.
However, they will lose the services of Ahmed El-Sheikh as the two clubs are nearing to agree on a swap deal, as confirmed by Farouk.
“Pyramids have agreed on everything with Amed El-Sheikh and the completion of the deal is dependent on a meeting with Amir Tawfik [Al Ahly’s head of transfers], but I am yet to sign anything.
“Many of Al Ahly fans are angry at me because I play aggressively against their club, but this is how I play.
“I am an Al Ahly fan and I love the club so much whether the deal is completed or not.
“Al Ahly is the reason people know my name, and I have won many trophies with them,” he added.
Farouk is one of Pyramids’ key players, scoring 12 goals while providing eight assists for them last season, helping the club reach the CAF Confederation Cup final as well as finishing third on the league table.
He was called-up by Hossam El-Badry for the Pharaohs’ double-header with Togo, however, he withdrew from the squad due to injury, missing out on adding another cap to his name.
If successful, Farouk will become Al Ahly’s fourth summer signing after deals for Taher Mohamed Taher from Arab Contractors, Ahmed Abdelkader from Sparta Prague, and Raja skipper Badr Benoun.
Meanwhile, Ahmed El-Sheikh has been at the Reds since 2015, but never managed to cement his spot in the starting line-up and was even loaned out a couple of times during his time at the club.
Pyramids FC have already signed three ex-Al Ahly players this window, namely Ramadan Sobhi, Sherif Ekramy, and Ahmed Fathi.
