Ghana International Rashid Sumaila eye Asante Kotoko return before retirement

Rashid Sumaila, who signed for Asante Kotoko from Ebusua Dwarfs in 2012, he insisted that he will want to return to the Ghana Premier League side before he retires from football.

The tough defender won the Ghana Premier League with the Ghanaian giants in the 2012-2013 season before his stunning performance saw South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns signed him the next season.

The Qadsia Sporting Club center-back still have good memories of his goods days at Kotoko and has revealed the chances of returning to the former side before he hang the boots.

“I can’t predict my future since I’m a footballer, I’m currently enjoying my career with Al-Qadsia FC here in Kuwait but i might join the porcupine warriors club if possible before I hang my football boots,” Sumaila told Atinka TV. sports.

He was at heart of defence when Kotoko conquered the Ghana Premier League in 2013 but their campaign in Africa ended in sorrow after Algerian outfits JSM Bejaia eliminated the Ghanaian giants from the CAF Champions League.

The 1983 Champions League champions had drew goalless with JSM Bejaia in Algeria during the first leg of the 2012-2013 CAF Champions League first round.

But the Algerians hampered Kotoko’s progress to the second round of the competition after Mohammed Derrag canceled Michael Akuffo’s first half stoppage time opener for Kotoko.

Derrag run past Sumaila before receiving a lofted pass inside Kotoko box, and calmly smashed it past former Burkina International shot stopper Sulaima Abdulai to ensure the game ended 1-1 at Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium as the away side went through to the sound round of the Champions League.

But before that Kotoko white-washed Equatorial Guinean side Sony Elá Nguema in 8-0 thriller over the two-legged tie.

Kotoko won the first leg at Kumasi 7-0 before completing a double win over Nguema in Equatorial Guinean having won the second leg 1-0 through Michael Helegbe.
