Nantes midfielder Dennis Appiah reacts to defeat to AS Monaco in French Ligue 1

French International with Ghanaian descent Dennis Appiah who plays for French Ligue 1 side FC Nantes has reacted to his side defeat to AS Monaco in the French elite division of football.

Nantes made a trip to face Monaco at Stade Louis II with aim of getting their second consecutive league victory but finally ended up losing 2-1 to Niko Kovac’s men in Matchday 3 of the 2020/2021 French Ligue 1 season.

Ludovic Blas leveled for Nantes after Sofiane Diop had given Monaco an early lead just 5’ minutes into proceedings but Willem Geubbles restored Monaco’s lead four minutes after Blas’ 61’ minute equalizer.

The French-Ghanaian footballer has reacted to his side first league loss in the league, already won and drawn a game each.

The former French youth International believes Nantes had a poor start of the game, allowing Monaco to get the better of the them.

“We entered the game badly,” he said after the game. “They got in better than us anyway. We didn’t put them under enough pressure when they had the ball,” the 28-year old added.

‘We didn’t get it high enough. They are too easily taken out of the laundry that we have tried to establish. They managed to put Fabregas in an armchair,” Appiah said.

“When not attacked, even at 40m, he is able to feed all the players he sees, all the right calls. And as before, there is quality. So it was complicated.”

Appiah moved to Nantes from Anderlecht in 2019 and has been capped at all youth levels of the France.

On 19 May 2010, Appiah signed his first professional contract agreeing to a three-year deal at Monaco.

He made his professional debut on 1 August 2011 in a league match against Boulogne. He played the entire match, which ended 0–0.
