Ghanaian International Emmanuel Gyasi eyes imminent Seria A debut with newly promoted Spezia Calcio

Ghanaian International can’t wait to get started the 2020/2021 Seria A season with his new promoted side into Italian top flight league.

Spezia Calcio gained promotion to the Seria A for this season after initially placing third on the Seria B table with 61 points from 38 games, behind second and first placed Crotone and Benevento respectively.

Spezia then completed a landmark in Italy’s elite division, qualifying to the Seria A for the first time in their history after wins in play-offs.

And Ghanaian International Gyasi, 26, was instrumental in the course of their campaign for the remarkable achievement.

The 26-year old has reflected on Spezia’s 2019/2020 season that was nearly cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and highlighted the tough nature of the Seria A- that starts this weekend.

The 26-year old forward also embraced the importance boss Vincenzo Italiano who guided the Black and White to defeat Chievo and Frosinone in play-offs in the 2019–20 season.

“The coach was very important because he immediately gave me confidence and taught me a lot on an offensive level,” the Ghanaian said.

“It was really fundamental for me and my teammates: the important thing for us is that we must always keep the group because it has helped us so much this year.

“We know that Serie A will be a tough and tough championship, plus for many of us it’s the first ever, so we can’t wait to play.”

Gyasi netted 8 goals and registered 5 assists in 33 games across all competitions.

From 2012 to 2018, Spezia enjoyed relative success in Serie B, generally finishing in mid-table or qualifying for the promotion playoffs.

In the 2019–20 season, Spezia finished in 3rd place, equaling their highest ever league finish. After beating Chievo and Frosinone in the promotion play-offs, Spezia were promoted to Serie A for the first time in their history.

Spezia will begin their Seria A season against Sassuolo where Gyasi is expected to make his debut in Spezia colours as far as Italian top flight football is concerned.
