Johnson Smith impressed with Daniel Afriyie Barnieh as Kotoko is close to signing the defender from Republicans Academy

The Ghana transfer window has opened, and Ghana Premier League side Kotoko are in search of quality players to boost their squad ahead of the upcoming season with Republicans Academy defender Daniel Afriyie Barnieh heavily been linked with a move to Kotoko.

Afriyie has been in impressive form for Republicans so far this season , which earned him an earlier call up to the Black Meteors.

The Republican defender was a new revelation for Tanko and his colleagues during Ghana’s preparations to the 2019 Africa U-23 Nations Cup in Egypt. But he failed to make a cut to the final squad due to multiple reasons as it’s believed.

Kotoko scouts have monitored the performance of Daniel Afriyie for a couple of months now, and according to reports, the scouting team were very impressed with the performance of the 18 year old defender during his stay at Meteors camp.

After his omission from Ghana’s U-23 squad towards AFCON U-23 Championship in Egypt, the lower division defender began training with Asante Kotoko. The defender has been training with Kotoko for some days now, and he has been impressive for interim boss Johnson Smith.

Talks between Kotoko and Republicans Academy for the transfer of the versatile defender  are still ongoing, which contacts are believed to be in advanced stage.
