EXCLUSIVE: 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament postponed by CAF

CAF African Nations Championship tournament for the year 2020 and 6th edition has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak Futball Surgery understand.

The tournament was scheduled to commence in Cameroon early next month that would have seen defending champions Morocco, hosts Cameroon and most successful country Dr Congo compete for the 2020 title.

However, in the phase of Covid-19 pandemic where virtually all sporting events within and across the African continent have been put on temporary hold means the 2020 CHAN faces the same fate as the Confederation of African Football ruled yesterday Monday 16th March, 2020.

The tournament has initial kickoff date of 4-25 April but the date has been postponed until further notice according to CAF.

Cameroon announced two confirmed cases of the COVID-19, which has shredded sport schedules across the globe.

In light of that, CAF medical experts assessed last weekend the measures hosts Cameroon have taken to combat the coronavirus pandemic ahead of the African Nations Championship.

The feedback has resulted in the postponement of this year’s CHAN competition. Games were supposed to be played in the capital, Yaounde, at two stadiums in second city Douala, and seaside city Limbe.

CAF took same initiative last week to postpone all double headers of 20121 AFCON qualifiers which were scheduled for the end of this month.
