Egypt veteran Hossam Ashour leaves Al Ahy at the end of the season

Al Ahly captain Hossam Ashour will leave the club at the end of the season after club announced to him no additional contract extension for the veteran.

Ashour, 34, together with Sherif EkramyAhmed Fathi and Walid Soliman will see the current contract expire this summer but Ahly boss Rene Weiler has decided not to extent Ashour’s stay at the Cairo International Stadium.

Walid Soliman has been offered two year contract extension, whilst unlike Ashour, 34, who has been directly communicated to by the Egyptian giants, to leave the club when his contract ends at the end of this season.

According to reports in Egypt, Ahly’s committee of football, headed by Mohsen Saleh, informed Ashour during a meeting on Friday that his services is no longer needed for the subsequent seasons.

The Cairo based side decided to honour the veteran with a ceremonial game that will see his departure from Al Ahly remembered in good manner. Ashour told the club’s officials however that he has not planned of retirement that should end him a ceremonial match.

Ashour is Ahly’s youth product, having served the African giants for close to 16 years and reach 500 appearances to emerge as the most all time capped Al Ahly player.

He has won 12 Egyptian Premier League titles, five CAF Champions League trophies, three Egypt Cup titles, eight Egypt Super Cups, five CAF Super Cups, and the 2014 CAF Confederation Cup to air as Egypt’s most decorated player.
