Yahaya Mohammed warns Heats of Oak after GPL defeat as Aduana Stars forward realises Asante Kotoko chances in weekend FA Cup clash

Aduana Stars forward Yahaya Mohammed has highlighted Asante Kotoko’s threat in weekend’s FA Cup clash against his side but doesn’t rule out Aduana’s chances as he sees the FA Cup as a different competition from the league.

The two sides have already entered into a host race for the Ghana Premier League title this term with Aduana Stars leading their title rivals with 7 points on top of the table.

A top-4 clash will be seen in the FA Cup this weekend at Dormaa when Aduana Stars welcome GPL third place Asante Kotoko to the Nana Agyemang Badu Park for FA Cup round of 16 game on Sunday.

After brushing aside Hearts of Oak in tough Ghana Premier League game at Accra Sports Stadium two days ago, the leaders will hoping to brush off the Porcupine Warriors to keep their hopes of winning double alive.

The 35-year old attacker has warned Hearts of Oak performance and their Ghana Premier League title chances following Phobia’s home loss to the leaders.

When asked if Hearts of Oak can turn things around to win the league, Yahaya replied, “If Hearts of Oak is going to put on this performance in each and every game then they should count themselves out. Even top four they cannot…. Per what I saw yesterday, is not good as a big club. We should be sincere and truthful to the club [Hearts of Oak]. I respect the team, I respect Hearts of Oak a lot but this performance, to be honest it wasn’t good.

“If they don’t change their attitude and play their hearts out to lift the Hearts of Oak family to the highest level and continue with this performance I saw yesterday then I don’t think they can achieve something.

“The performance I saw yesterday is not the Hearts of Oak I knew,”

With Kotoko’s current poor away performance, Aduana Stars look like favourites in the upcoming clash though Seydou Zerbo’s men cannot be ruled out in the FA Cup clash completely. The Porcupine Warriors haven’t had the best run of form in away games in recent times compared to last season when they beat Aduana Stars at home.

However, Asante Kotoko have been solid in the FA Cup this season with their former striker Yahaya Mohammed evidencing Kotoko’s threat in the domestic cup.

Yahaya believes Aduana Stars will likely carry the day if Sunday’s clash is a Ghana Premier League tie but highlighting Kotoko’s chances at Dormaa as the game is FA Cup.

“Playing FA Cup is different. The league is also different. There is a different approach. The possibility of beating Asante Kotoko in Dormaa is very high.

“For some time they forced us to draw and beat us but it is not going to happen again. No matter what we are going to beat Kotoko,” Yahaya Mohammed stated in an interview with Ghanasportspage.com.

Last season, George Mfegue and Richmond Lamptey’s strikes handed Kotoko 2-0 victory breaking their winless record at Aduana Stars. Yahaya Mohammed is expected to miss the weekend’s game.

Kotoko may appear a favourite side despite the game coming off at Dormaa having beaten Aduana Stars in MTN FA Cup semifinals in 2015.

Christopher Boney double and Michael Akufu goal before a consolation from Godfred Saka gave Asante Kotoko 3-1 win over Aduana Stars at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
