Pitso Mosimane reacts to criticisms from Al Ahly legends as boss focus on job

Pitso Mosimane says he’s received positive words from Al Ahly legends like Mohamed Aboutrika as he ignores the wave of attacks against him.

Mosimane helped Ahly secure a historic treble in the 2019/20 season which included their record ninth CAF Champions League title and remains unbeaten since he left Sundowns for the Egyptian giants in September last year.

However, after every draw in the league this season, former players and pundits have questioned his tactics while Ibrahim Hassan suggested Mosimane would be sacked after two games at any other Egyptian team.

While there have been personal attacks on his management ability, the former Bafana Bafana boss has taken it in his stride by admitting it’s part of the job at the most successful club in Africa.

“You can’t focus on that,” Mosimane told SAFJA during an online press conference.

“If you want to coach Al Ahly‚ and want to coach Sundowns‚ do you worry about the former player who’s been asked‚ ‘Do you think the guy is doing well‚ will they make it‚ do you think he’s selecting the right squad?’

“Former players have got what they have to say and we always have to respect their contributions in football. Some speak well. I mean Mido came out‚ he spoke so well. Wael Gomaa came from Qatar, he came to me‚ oh unbelievable.

“These legends are coming and saying good things. [Mohamed] Aboutrika has been saying good things. That pressure is always there. You must thrive under criticism.”

He added: “If you think I had pressure at Sundowns‚ no my friend‚ I have pressure here. Now this is real stuff. You draw one game‚ you lose one game‚ you are on the edge. So you have got to win.”

The Reds will travel to Qatar for FIFA Club World Cup as they face Asian champions Al Duhail in second round of the competition next week Thursday.
