Eden Hazard injured against PSG in Champions League but won’t miss El Classico

Real Madrid Star Eden Hazard sustained a fibula injury during Madrid’s eventual 2-2 draw against PSG at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday evening.

Hazard’s injury came after a reckless challenge from PSG right back and fellow Belgium national team star Thomas Meunier. The defender hacked at Hazard’s awkwardly planted foot dangerously and somehow avoided a booking, though the referee did give him a yellow card later for a tactical foul shove on Gareth Bale.

It was Bale who replaced Hazard minutes after the injury, when Real Madrid trainers realized the Belgian would not be able to continue.

According to Cadena SER’s Javi Herraez, via El Larguero on Twitter, Hazard has a fibula injury that is reportedly not “serious”. Though he’ll need to go for further testing, he is tentatively expected to be able to play in El Clasico later this month.

Real Madrid will face La Liga side Alaves on Saturday, and they are fully expected to win even without Hazard. Afterwards, Los Blancos will face Espanyol on the following Saturday, Club Brugge in the Champions League on Dec. 11, Valencia on Dec. 15, Barcelona on Dec. 18, and Bilbao on Dec. 22 as part of a difficult schedule before Christmas.
