Match Report: Mamelodi Sundowns defeat USM Alger 1-0 in CAF Champions League

South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns traveled to Alger to beat USM Alger by 1-0 in round three of the CAF Champions League group stage.

None of the teams broke the deadlock until Hlompho Kekana capitalized on an error to score the only goal of the game in the second half.

The first half had ended a goalless draw with the away side dominating early proceedings whiles the South Africans came in strongly during the end of the first half.

Mamelodi Sundowns took the lead on 59’ minute mark as Hlompho Kekana reacted the quickest on Mustapha Kheiraoui intended back pass, the Downs striker dribbled Alger keeper Mohamed Lamine Zemmamouche before burying the ball in an empty net.

USM Alger pushed for the leveler but were struggling to penetrate through Downs defense. Downs keeper Denis Onyango produce a brilliant save to the deny Alger the equalizer on 74’ minute after Aymen Mahious had unleashed a fine shot from outside the box.

Alger were still pressing to cancel out that goal but they failed at the end of the game all, handing Downs their second win in the group stage of the Champions League but their first victory away from home so far. Sundowns lead group C with 7 points from three games.
