Juan Carlos Garrido leads Wydad Athletic Club to Champions League quarter-final victory against former side Etoile du Sahel

Wydad Athletic Club claim a stunning 2-0 win over Etoile Sportive du Sahel to emerge as a second Moroccan club to hold firm advantage to the 2019-2020 CAF Champions League semis following Raja Club Athletic’s victory over TP Mazembe yesterday.

WAC appointed former Etoile manager Juan Carlos Garrido this month and the Spaniard’s first assignment was to face his former Tunisian employers in the Champions League quarter-finals, and simply got the job done in the first leg.

Mohamed Nahiri struck in each half to begin their Champions League glory with crucial home victory.

WAC took a bright start in front of packed and tensed atmosphere in Mohamaed V Stadium when Mohamed Nahiri beautifully headed home a cross from Ismail El Hadad just 11’ minutes to start.

Nine minutes into restart, Nahiri doubled WAC’s lead to hand Garrido his first victory after taking over as WAC manager.
