NEWCASTLE 2-2 MANCHESTER CITY- Jonjo Shelvey late strike hampers Manchester City title hopes

Manchester City traveled to the St. Jame’s Park against Newcastle with hopes very high against the backdrop that they clinched a vital three points against Chelsea at the Itihad Stadium last week.

In today’s game, with many expectations that City would take the lead at St. Jame’s, Pep Guardiola’s side leapfrogged Newcastle inside 22’ minutes through Raheem Sterling. David Silva’s clever, backheeled pass had allowed Raheem Sterling to curl in the visitors’ opener after 22 minutes.

The home side reacted quickly as Jetro Willems drew level for Newcastle just three minutes after City’s goal. The left-back linked up with Miguel Almiron before firing in.

Kevin de Bruyne’s equally brilliant strike from the edge of the box appeared to have salvaged victory for Pep Guardiola’s side with eight minutes left.

Jonjo Shelvey stepped up with an emphatic late equaliser as champions Manchester City surrendered further points in the Premier League title race at St James’ Park.

Pep Guardiola’s side climb to second with their point, while Newcastle are up to 12th.
