Real Madrid knocked out from Copa del Rey by Real Sociedad after La Real run away Santiago Bernabeu with a 3-4 victory in del Rey quarter-finals

Real Madrid chance of lifting this year’s Copa del Rey has been ended by Real Sociedad’s victory in tonight’s dramatic quarter-final clash at Santiago Bernabeu. Martin Odegaard, on loan from Real Madrid, scored from a rebound to give Sociedad a 1-0 lead inside 22’ minutes.

Madrid continued to press for the equalizer, as in fact, they had if anything was to go by, be the best side of the two before the visitors took the surprise lead.

As Madrid wouldn’t expect an early goal from the visitors, hunting for another silverware of the season after clinching the Spanish Super Cup from rival Atletico Madrid,  Oledegaard’s strike undoubtedly unsettled Zidane’s men throughout the first half.

If possession was the only anything to go by, Madrid was in the class of a world-class team, taking 62% of possession against Sociedad’s 38%, and completing almost twice the number of passes the visitors completed at the end of the first half.

Alexander Isak doubled Sociedad’s lead just four minutes into the second half but his goal was disallowed before the Isak this time went on to score two clean goals on the 54’ and 56’ minutes to send the away side up by 3-0 before the 58’ minute mark.

Marcelo pull one back for Madrid on the 59’ minute but Sociedad who were determine to leave the Bernabeu with victory restored their three-goal deficit as Mikel Merino made it 4-1 ten minutes after Marcelo’s strike.

Eleven minutes to full time, Vinicius Junior saw his goal ruled offside by the VAR again but he turns a provider two minutes later for sub Rodrygo to tap-in to keep Madrid hopes alive.

Madrid increased the pressure as they looked for a perfect comeback, Nacho later reduced to deficit to only one as it stood 4-3 by the 90+3 minute mark.

Real Madrid failed to complete the comeback after seeing the whistle blown for the end of the game.

Soceidad on the other hand couldn’t add to their tally, and all what the game could provide was a red card that saw Andoni  Gorosabel sent off two minutes later. Real Sociedad are now through to the semi-finals of this year’s Copa del Rey.
