Reece James suffers fresh injury scare before Chelsea head to USA for pre-season tour

Chelsea star Reece James has undergone a scan on his knee just days before their pre-season tour.

The Blues, now under Mauricio Pochettino, will travel to the United States for a series of friendly fixtures.

James has been back training at Cobham ahead of pre-season

After a dismal campaign, Chelsea will be gunning to bounce back and compete for silverware once against next season.

One player who will be hoping to prove a point under Pochettino will be James following an injury hampered few months.

A knee injury blighted his mid-season progress before hamstring trouble saw him miss the end of the season.

He was one of the first players back in training at Cobham, but he may not be fully fit ahead of pre-season.

As reported by the Evening Standard, James had to have a ‘precautionary’ scan on his knee.

After the 23-year-old said he felt pain, Chelsea want to be sure before they travel across the pond and are said to expect positive news.

Should that be the case, then James is set to play across their five scheduled pre-season fixtures.

Next Thursday will see them take on newly promoted League Two side Wrexham.

Chelsea will then face Brighton, Newcastle and Fulham in the Premier League’s Summer Series across the States.

Pochettino and co. will play Borussia Dortmund in their final fixture of pre-season, ten days before their opening Premier League match against Liverpool.

Fans will therefore soon be able to get a first glimpse of their new side, with summer signing Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku also set to feature.

Brighton star Moises Caicedo could also join the Blues, but they could face competition from Liverpool.
