Benni McCarthy reveals support for Al Ahly because of Mosimane ahead of Champions League clash with WAC

South Africa legend Benni McCarthy has said that he will be supporting Al Ahly in their upcoming CAF Champions League clash against Wydad.

Al Ahly have just two games remaining in the Egyptian Premier League having already secured the title for a record 42nd time.

The Red Devils will then face Wydad Athletic in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League a week later.

Former Ajax forward Benni McCarthy spoke about the CAF Champions League teams in the semi-finals, revealing that he will be rooting for Al Ahly to win the competition.

“The presence of four strong teams in the semi-finals shows the value of the CAF Champions League and expresses the strength of African football,” McCarthy told ON Time Sports.

“I hope Al Ahly and Zamalek reach the final because I know that they are two great teams but my heart will be with Al Ahly because of Pitso Mosimane.

“Mosimane did great with Mamelodi Sundowns, and he is the most successful coach in South Africa. His move to coach Al Ahly is a big step in his career and I wish him great success with them.

“Any manager in Africa dreams of coaching Al Ahly because of their great achievements in Egyptian and African football.

“I think that Mosimane will improve the team and his presence will open the door for South African managers to work in Egypt because we have good coaches.”
