Manchester United target Lazio striker Ciro Immobile as Romelu Lukaku replacement

Lukaku left for Inter Milan in a £76.5million deal last summer and at the time boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided not to invest in a player to take his spot at Old Trafford.

United latest transfer talks suggest Ole is now willing to replace the Belgian striker at Old Trafford. In the January transfer window, they identified but failed to land now Borussia Dortmund hot prospect Erling Braut Håland before they finally secured a loan move for Odion Ighalo from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua.

Ahead of the summer window, they were reportedly eyeing RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner but they are beaten to the signing of the German striker by Premier League rivals Chelsea- according to The Sun.

It appears that will not put a stop to United’s pursuit for the center forward in reopening of the transfer window. They  want to sign Italian forward Immobile to replace Lukaku according to Calciomercato.

The reports further claim that the player would be open to the move and is complimented by the interest from United. Lazio are likely to be reluctant to let go of the prolific 30-year-old.

Immobile may be a good replacement for Lukaku at Manchester United if their stats in the Seria A is to be considered.

Immobile has been instrumental in Lazio second place on the Seria A table with a point behind reigning champions Juve, netting 27 stunning goals in just 26 league games whiles Lukaku has 17 in 25 league games to his name.

In the absence of Lukaku, Solskjaer utilised Frenchman Anthony Martial in his preferred position as a central striker.
