Chelsea reject West Ham bid for Conor Gallagher as uncertainty remains over Moises Caicedo

Conor Gallagher is drawing interest from Premier League clubs despite being one of few senior midfielders remaining at Chelsea for Mauricio Pochettino to work with during pre-season.

This summer Chelsea have already seen Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante leave after Jorginho departed in January.

That has left Gallagher as the eldest member of the club’s midfield with Enzo Fernandez, 22, Cesare Casadei, 20, Andrey Santos, 19, Lewis Hall, 18, and Carney Chukwuemeka, 19, the other players to have featured in his position so far this pre-season.

Gallagher enjoyed his first full senior season with Chelsea in 2022/23 and made 45 appearances in a difficult season, after periods on loan with Crystal Palace, West Brom, Swansea and Charlton. The ace has already been involved with Chelsea’s friendlies against Wrexham and Brighton and scored against each as part of Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield.

Despite the interest gathering around Gallagher, his feelings about Chelsea are clear.

On England duty, he said: “I love Chelsea, it has been a tough season for me and the whole team so I think we will just be working hard to get us back to where we belong.”

“He’s [Pochettino] a top manager, everyone at Chelsea is happy he’s here and we’re looking forward to working with him,” he added.

Chelsea still hope to strengthen their midfield with Moises Caicedo. The Ecuador international did not feature for Brighton against the Blues in Philadelphia but the Seagulls’ demands have yet to be met. The south Coast side remain interested in Levi Colwill who has been declared not for sale by Chelsea.
