Asante Kotoko captain Felix Anann edge players to play for Kotoko and insists lack of permanent boss would not affect players

The Premier League side Asante Kotoko have been hit with temporary crises in their technical department after sacking former boss Kjetil Zachariassen some weeks ago.

On the basic, assistant coach Johnson Smith has been rolled-over to lead the technical aspect of the club on the interim, which means Kotoko have been under intense training ahead of the 2019-2020 season without a substantive head coach.

This is expected to affect the Kumasi based side from the psychological and readiness fronts but team captain Felix Anann have highlighted a much matured side of his colleagues, making claim that his teammates have neither been bordered nor affected by lack of coach problem.

The Black Stars keeper believes his playing colleagues are focused on playing for the Kotoko badge and not looking or playing for coaches at post.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, Anann said, “I have always said that as a player you always have to play for the badge, you don’t have to play because of a particular coach.”

“You signed a contract with Kotoko so you just have to do your job for the club. Irrespective of who is there, you have to do your job.

“There have subsequently been caretaker coaches appointed so we have to give them the needed respect as players so we can move forward.”

After edging his colleagues to play for Asante Kotoko irrespective of the current coaching situation at the club, he also highlighted that Asante Kotoko players are ready to play football despite the club’s lack of substantive boss.

“…”We have to play because we are players and we have contracts and even though there is no coach now, it is not our job.

“Our job is to play for the club. It is not our job as players to appoint coaches, so right now, whoever has been appointed to take care of the club, we’ll take that person as our coach and work hard so we achieve our aim of winning and ultimately, being champions.”

The Kotoko keeper together with his playing colleagues are believed to be ready to play for any coach who reigns the coaching post at Garden City club including current interim boss Johnson Smith.

However, Asante Kotoko are believe to be closing in on naming a foreign trainer at end of this week.
