Asante Kotoko interested in signing FC Nouadhibou forward Hemeya Tanji

Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko have developed interest in signing FC Nouadhibou star Hemeya Tanji and may open contacts after Caf Champions League second leg clash with the Mauritanian giants this weekend.

The Ghanaian side still knee strengthening their setup despite already announcing deals for Evans Adomako, Fabio Gama, Muniru Sulley, Emmanuel Keyekeh, Patrick Asmah, Yussif Mubarik, Razak Abelora and Abdel Latif Anabila,

Kotoko’s transfer business this season was mainly centered around their defense and midfield with only Evans Adomako arrival as a strikers. Adomako’s inclusion adds up to a total of five strikers at the Porcupine Warriors and it’s only Kwame Opoku and Osman Ibrahim that have proved their worth in Kotoko’s colours so far whiles the remaining continue to flop.

Last Season, Naby Keita and William Opoku Mensah scored a total of three goals across all competitions with the Guinea International scoring one each in the Ghana Premier League and Caf Confederation Cup whiles Opoku Mensah netted in the Ghana Premier League against Liberty Professional.

In average talk, Evans Adomako, Keita, Opoku Mensah have offered boss Maxwell Konadu little impression to count on where the last two have even failed to make cut to the 18-man squad in Match-Days this season.

Kotoko are forced to consider selling Opoku Mensah and Keita when the next transfer window opens whiles bringing in FC Nouadhibou forward Hemeya Tanji has already been discussed inside Kotoko technical staff.

Tanji, 22, has been splendid in Nouadhibou shirt, and did not only drew his side on level but he the Mauritanians’ danger man when they played Asante Kotoko in first leg of the Champions League first preliminary round and it’s understood that Maxwell Konadu penciled down the player after clash in Mauritania.

Kotoko have not yet contacted either of Tanji and the Nouadhibou over a possible move when second transfer window for registering players into Caf Champions League opens next year.

Kotoko have failed doing contacts due to their second leg tie against Tanji’s side and would contact FC Nouadhibou about availability of their hit-man after game in Accra this Saturday

The 22-year old centre-forward joined Nouadhibou in July 2018 but has failed to net in a combined 7 Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup games.

Despite his continental goal drought, Tanji continues to attract interest from rivals who have played Nouadhibou in the Caf Inter Club football and the latest is Ghana Premier League outfit Kotoko.

Tanji played for the national under-20 team during the 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations qualifiers in the summer of 2016, scoring twice in two matches.

In May 2018, he was named to the 22-man squad selected to play at the 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He received a call-up to the senior national team in January 2018 ahead of the 2018 African Nations Championship. He made his senior international debut during the first group stage match against Morocco on 13 January, replacing Moussa Samba in the 77th minute of an eventual 4–0 defeat.

Ahead of their second leg game against the Ghanaian side, Tanji has been praised and warned over by Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu.

“They (FC Nouadhibou) have some skillful players I must be honest. Hemeya Tanjy is a wonderful player”, Konadu told reporters post match interview in Mauritania.

“He is the man we have to watch come next Sunday, so we can work around him and play him out of the game, so we can have our day.”

If Tanji end up completing a move to Kotoko, he will become the first player from Mauritania to play for the Porcupine Warriors.
