Caf Champions League- Asante Kotoko clash with FC Nouadhibou called off due to coronavirus concerns

Asante Kotoko clash with FC Nouadhibou has been called off due to coronavirus concerns on the away side. Both teams did not take to the pitch of Accra Sports Stadium after 2 of FC Nouadhibou players testing positive for coronavirus.

According to Caf regulations in relation to coronavirus pandemic, all clubs must undergo mandatory covid-19 test which has already taking place in both Kotoko and the Mauritanian side.

Kotoko are reportedly had all their 18-man squad tested negative for current global virus and were cleared safe to play the game.

However, FC Nouadhibou have seen 2 of their 18-man squad tested positive for covid-19 where according to reports all five are starting in today’s clash.

The game’s officials offered alternative to Nouadhibou where the Mauritanian giants have been asked to change those players in a bid to give nod to 5 players who are tested negative for the disease. Nouadhibou insisted to use allegedly tested players.

The Mauritania side are believed to have doubt about the results of the test that was conducted by Ghanaian medical officials ahead of the game.

That may against the backdrop that there may be foul play in the test conducted by West African’s medical staffs to give due advantage to the Ghanaian side.

FC Nouadhibou will now see their 2 players or even their entire team undergo another testing later the day or the next one, according to one reporter in the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Senegalese referee Komlanvi Aklassou supposedly called off the game after 45’ minutes and knee reporting the inconsistencies to Caf which could be in Kotoko’s favor.

That’s one alternative and it understood that the game could be rescheduled due to medical concern which doesn’t have specification in Caf regulation especially if a club fail to honour a game due to sensitive medical case.

The players of Nouadhibou who are tested positive are unknown and Futball Surgery will provide more updates on the match.
