Match Report: Gor Mahia 3-1 APR as it happened (4-3 agg), CAF Champions League first preliminary second leg

Gor Mahia got qualification to next round of the 2020/2021 African Champions League late following a 3-1 defeat of APR from Rwanda.

The Kenyan side scored two late goals to overturn the tie against the Rwandan side.

The Kenyan giants suffered a narrow defeat from first leg in in Rwanda’s capital after Kenneth Muguna scoring a consolation on Niyonzima Seif and Andrew Juma’s own goal to end the game 2-1 for APR last Saturday.

While welcoming APR to the Nyayo National Stadium, Gor Mahia leapfrogged their rivals in early minutes of the game after Samuel Onyango scored to put his side ahead 18’ minute.

That goal was sending Gor Mahia through to the second preliminary round of the Caf Champions League on 2-2 aggregate but the away side cause a shocking moment drawing on level when it was 9’ minutes to full time.

APR had pushed for the equalizer after long period containing possession in Gor Mahia’s half and finally got it in a beautiful fashion when Nsanzimfura Keddy struck form outside the box to the bottom left corner.

Gor Mahia changed their approach after now relying on crosses which Sydney Ochieng and Nicholas Kipkirui accurately found two, raising above APR defense to head home on 90+3 and 90+6 respectively.

Gor Mahia have qualified to second round of the Champions League after 4-3 overcoming of APR from Rwanda. The Kenyans face either CR Belouizdad or Al-Nasr in the next round.
