South Africa U-23 beaten 2-0 by Zamalek in close doors friendly ahead of African U-23 Nationas Cup

South Africa have suffered a 2-0 defeat in the hands of Egyptian power house Zamalek on Wednesday afternoon as the Young Bafana Bafana prepare for the upcoming African U-23 championship in Egypt.

South Africa are in a tough group with Ivory Coast, Zambia and defending champions Nigerian and have step up their preparations in order to get adequate readiness against their opponents in the tournament that kick start tomorrow.

David Notoane’s side welcomed Zamalek to the Abdel-Latif Abu-Rajelha Stadium, and were less off their Egyptian opponents in terms of score line but not in performance.

The first half ended goalless draw but two second half goals from Achraf Bencharki and Karim ‘Bambo ensure that Micho who assume the position as Zamalek boss from Orlando Pirates four months ago and his men won the 67’ minutes friendly 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

The game gave Notoane fair idea about his team as they host Zambia on Saturday at El Salam Stadium for their first Africa U-23 championship game.

Zamalek on the other hand are in preparations ahead of their CAF Champions League group stage campaign where they will face TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi two weeks later.
