Egypt snatch late victory against Liberia in Pre-AFCON friendly

Egypt were without their star player Mohammed Salah as they welcomed Liberia to a friendly game on Thursday night at Borg El Arab Stadium. The game enables Egypt to advance their preparations to face Kenya in 2019 AFCON qualifiers next week at Cairo.

Egypt started the game strongly as Mohamed Magdy ‘Afsha’ on the first minute sent Ahmed Sayed ‘Zizo’ through on goal but the winger’s right footed strike missed the posts by a narrow inch.

Three minutes later, Egypt wasted another glorious opportunity to take the lead, when Zizo sent a crossed freekick towards Mahmoud Alaa, whose header went inches wide Liberia posts.

Five minutes to the end of the first half, Egypt suffered a big blow as Hussain El-Shafat was forced off the pitch. Shafat sustained serious injury following a careless challenge from Liberia defender.

The away side made a huge statement on the 80′ minute through Sam Jakson who received a cross inside Egypt penalty box but Jakson failed to convert past Mohamed El-Shennawy.

Five minutes to full time, Egypt broke the deadlock. Mohamed Hany from the right flank sent low cross to Fathi, who finished the ball into the back of the net with a brilliant first touch.

Christopher Jakson was shown the exit door 3 minutes to full time after sending a careless challenge on Egypt player.

Egypt will welcome Kenya to the 2019 AFCON qualifiers in their next game next week.
