CONFIRMED: Former Black Stars Assistant coach Maxwell Konadu rejoins boyhood club Asante Kotoko

Maxwell Konadu re-unites with former club Asante Kotoko after signing a proposed two year deal with the club on Monday evening.

There were rumors circulating in Ghana media a couple of weeks ago that Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko want a reunion with their former coach Maxwell Konadu. And the reunion first broke up after Norwegian trainer Kjetil Zachariassen failed to send Kotoko through to the group stages of any of the 2019 CAF Inter Club Competitions, suffering a 3-0 defeat against Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel in the return leg of the Champions League and 2-0 in the second leg of the Confederation Cup Play-offs.

The management of Asante Kotoko knew a replacement for Zachariasssen would not only reduce the built tension between them and supporters, but would also boost their chances in the coming Ghana Premier League season, and Maxwell Konadu, Frank Nutall, Stafeno Cusin, and former Horoya boss Didier Gomes Da Rosa were all linked with a move to Kotoko after the Ghanaian side sack their manager.

Maxwell Konadu, Frank Nutall and Didier Gomez had a point in time looked favorites to replace Zachariassen at Kotoko, where on the side of Maxwell Konadu, initial talks between him and Kotoko advanced to a higher point right after guiding Ghana Local side to the finals of the 2019 WAFU tournament in Senegal.

But communication broke down later on, and that is where former Hearts boss Frank Nutall then emerged as the new favorite for job after it became evident that Kotoko wanted to acquire the services of only a foreign trainer.

Didier Gomez nearly snatched the coaching job beginning of last week but failed to reach agreement with the Kumasi club in last minute.

Kotoko resumed talks with Maxwell Konadu again to sort out the differences that prevent any deal from happening in the first negotiations, where it’s understood that salary drifted the two parties away. After several times of meetings, the former Black Starts assistant coach has finally signed a two year deal with his former club.

Maxwell and his lawyer arrived at Kotoko secretariat today Monday afternoon to sign his two year contract with the Ghanaian giants. He will in the helm of affairs when Kotoko take on rivals Hearts of Oak in the Presidential Cup on Sunday.

Konadu played for Kotoko between 1998 and 2004, and guided the Kumasi based side to win the Ghana Premier title in the 2012 season before leaving to assume as Black Stars assistant coach.
