EXCLUSIVE: Asante Kotoko set two Burkina forwards Yannick Wendyam Pognongo on trials amid solving misfiring striking problems

Asante Kotoko have set two Burkina players, a striker and a defender on trials at club training ground ahead of a possible transfer to solve their striking problems.

The strikers at Baba Yara have not lived up to expectation this season, which together the combination of Songne Yacouba, Naby Kieta, Richard Arthur and William Opoku Mensah have produced just four goals inside the season.

Leading on the chart is William Opoku Mensah who has scored two goals, one each against Liberty Professionals and Kerala last Friday whilst Richard Arthur and Naby Kieta have grabbed a goal each against Ebusua Dwarfs and Hearts of Oak respectively.

The strikers’ inability to produce more goals has affected Kotoko’s Premier League title chase where they have eventually moved from 5th position to second place on the log.

The club have already taken important step in addressing their misfiring striking problem, signing Lower Division goal-machine Kwame Opoku from Nkoranza Warriors, and now they have set another Burkina International on trials at Adako Jachie.

The names remain undisclosed, however, one include forward Yannick Wendyam Pognongo who scored Burkina’s lone goal against Black Stars B in the CHAN Qualifiers at Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium last years.

His goal handed Burkina’s qualification to the 2020 CHAN tournament that takes place in Cameroon next month.

The players arrived in Kumasi last week and begin their trials on Monday. According to reports, Naby Kieta and Richard Arthur are expected to be shown the exit door in order to free up space to accommodate Pognongo if he impresses the technical staff.
