Karela United complete the signing of former Asante Kotoko midfielder Umar Bashiru

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Umar Bashiru has completed a move to Premier League side Karela United after the two parties reached agreement earlier.

The creative midfielder paid his dues during Kotoko’s impressive CAF Confederation Cup campaign in the 2018-2019 season.

However, Bashiru, 22, was out of favor at the club beginning of this season and was shown the exit door in August last year.

But his qualities despite not succeeding at Kotoko have caused many suitors like Hearts of Oak, Medeama Sporting Club, Legon Cities Football Club and Karela United a sleepless night.

The 22-year-old is believed to have open talks with Medeama and Legon Cities but with none of the talks materializing, Karela United step up their game to land the midfielder.

The second transfer window in Ghana basically ends today Thursday and Karela have confirmed Umar Bashiru as their new signing together with seven new players.

Bashiru captained WAFA during his stay at Sogakokpe before joining Asante Kotoko in August 2018 and gradually walked into C.K Akonnor’s eleven establishing a good partnership with Kwame Bonsu Conte in midfield.

Karela knee adding Bashiru to their ranks after emerging as one of the clubs in Ghana who have lost top talents over the last two years as the likes of Empem Dacosta, Abdul Ganiyu, Maxwell Baakoh, Patrick Yeboah and manager Johnson Smith have all joined Asante Kotoko within two seasons.

Despite these losses, they still have one of the best defensive midfielders and striker in the Ghana Premier League in Emmanuel Keyekeh and Diawiesie Taylor respectively.

The two are also reportedly attracted interest from Asante Kotoko where it has been claimed that the Kumasi based club have already open negotiations with Karela United over a possible move for Keyekeh.
