Ghana’s pitch invader Awal Suleman released from police custody and receives heroic welcome

Awal Suleman, Ghana’s pitch invader has been released from Cape Coast police custody following his arrest on Thursday evening during which Ghana Black Stars were leading their South African opponents 2-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Awal Suleman invaded the Cape Coast Stadium pitch last Thursday when Ghana thrashed South Africa 2-0, goals from Thomas Partey in the first half and Emmanuel Kudus on the 85’ minute.

Ghana’s escalating performance on the day brought much joy to many Black Stars supporters in the Cape Coast stadium, and one supporter by name Awal Suleman couldn’t hold his excitement any longer by walking onto the pitch.

The supporter broke security to step foots on the Stadium’s turf, at a point where Ghana were comfortably leading their opponents 2-0, to express his excitement but was later arrested by the Cape Coast police force and kept in custody for two days.

Many Ghanaian supporters had called for the release of Awal Suleman on the day of his arrest but the calls weren’t fruitful on the evening and the next day Friday, as the invader was kept in Cape Coast police custody for two day, running from Thursday to Saturday.

On Saturday morning, Awal was granted a released but could still face the law court on Monday according to latest reports.The released process was initiated the Ghana Football Association and led by president Kurt Okraku.

During his arrival to his neighbourhood, Awal was welcomed with joy as many people gathered in the street, chanting his name with others raising his invasion shirt in the air.
